Applications Open for 2024 Workshop!

New in 2024!

  • Working on a Chapbook or a section of a larger book? PITW participants in 2024 have the option to get focused feedback from faculty on up to 10 pages of poetry.

  • A mix of new and returning faculty members!

  • Small group workshop sessions with at least two faculty members per six participants.

  • New locations including: Forest Park, Castlewood State Park, and Wildlife Rescue Center.

  • More opportunities for organic interaction for faculty and participants.

  • New hiking locations! Enhanced rideshare options! And a campfire poetry reading/wolf howl!​

Attendees will work one-on-one with award-winning poets.

Inspiring Nature Walks

Find inspiration on nature hikes and hone your poetry skills immersed in Missouri woods.

Workshop Reading Event

Particpants will share their poetry in a reading events.

Who Can Apply:

Applications are open to anyone (High School - Adult). Each individual is only allowed to submit one application. If accepted into the program, all participants MUST be able to attend both days of the workshop (because participation is limited to 20 individuals, each seat is extremely valuable). Participants are required to arrange travel to workshop locations. Rideshare options may be available but are not guaranteed.

Applicants from Outside the St. Louis Region:

Applications are open to anyone living anywhere in the world. If accepted, participants will be responsible for travel and are required to attend both days of the workshop.

PITW Fellowships

Up to ten Poetry in the Woods Fellows will be offered and will include invitation to be featured in PITW events.

Note: Early submission is recommended. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and up to 20 Applicants will be accepted. If that limit is reached before September 15th, the application portal will be closed and no further applications will be accepted for 2024.

NOTE: Please review the form thoroughly before submitting. Applicants are limited to a single application and changes cannot be made once you hit the submit button.

Are you eligible for financial scholarship (St. Louis region residents only)? Reminder: to qualify for a financial scholarship, combined household income for previous year's tax filing should be less than $50,000. We ask that applicants only select if they meet the criteria. Up to 10 financial scholarships will be awarded.

Are you an active high-school or part-time/full-time students enrolled in college, university or trade school?

If accepted, I agree to attend both days of workshop on 10/5/2024 and 10/6/2024.

Please consider participating in rideshare if you have the means to assist other participants. Ridesharing is not mandatory and will not impact admission to workshop.

If accepted (and ridesharing is not available), I agree to arrange my own transportation to and from PITW.

If you're not yet a member, please consider becoming a member of one of our partner organizations (see members below). For example, a student membership at the St. Louis Poetry Center starts at just $15. Not only does your membership support the work these amazing local non-profits do all year round, but it could also save you $35 if you're accepted into the workshop!

Final Step: Attach a Poetry Submission:

Please upload 1 - 10 pages of poetry as a .pdf file (Word Docs also accepted) as part of your application (single spaced, Calibri or other standard font). The poem(s) can be previously published or unpublished (poem submission is only for the purposes of the application and will not be published or made publicly available). We have no preference for style, subject matter, or form. We are excited to read your work!

NOTE: If accepted, you will have an opportunity to send over a final version of your poetry for the actual workshop. Final version of poetry submitted for Workshop does NOT need to include poetry submitted as part of the application.

Before you submit:

Please review your completed application before hitting the submit button. Once you've submitted this form, changes cannot be made. Only one submission per person is permitted per application cycle. A confirmation email will be sent to your email address shortly (may take a few minutes) after submission. Additional submissions will not be considered.

We ask that you do not inquire about the status of your submission. If changes occur between the time of submission and PITW team decision (e.g., membership status), you will be able to make those changes after a decision email is received.
