Join us for an evening of springing forward with a reading from Leaning Toward Light, an anthology of Poems for Gardens and the Hands that Tend Them in Webster Groves on Monday, February 5th!

 

Tess Taylor and Dana Levin will read from the new anthology at the Novel Neighbor Bookstore from 7PM - 8PM.

 

Events are free and open to the public. Author books will be available for purchase. Author book signing will immediately follow the reading.

Registration is highly recommended as seating is limited!

Join us for an evening of springing forward with a literary walk through Old Orchard in Webster Groves on Monday, April 8th!

 

A Poetry Discussion (Topic: Poetry & Renewal) will be held at Webster University Pearson House from 4PM - 5PM, followed by a literary meet & greet down the street at Weber's Front Row from 5PM - 6:30PM, and capped off with a reading from new books by Amie Whittemore and Travis Mossotti at the Novel Neighbor Bookstore from 7PM - 8PM.

 

Events are free and open to the public. Author books will be available for purchase. Author book signing will immediately follow the reading.

Event Details Announced

Poetry in the Woods will be hosting an open-air, no-mic Poetry Hike and Reading off-site at AWP 2024 in Kansas City on Friday, February 9th! Hike and reading event will be curated by poet and Poetry in the Woods Program Coordinator, Travis Mossotti.

Participants should review the details below and complete the registration form. Participants may choose to be a featured reader at this event and may also choose to participate in rideshare with other participants.

NOTE ON CAPACITY: Event Registration will CLOSE once capacity is reached (~30 participants). Please do not register unless you are sure you will participate.

When: Friday, February 9th

Arrival: Arrive for Poetry Hike @ 6:30-6:45AM CST

Hike Duration: 7:00AM - 8:30AM CST

Reading: Poetry Reading @ Shelter #7 from 8:30AM - 9:15AM CST

 

ADA Accessibility: Shelter #7 is Managed by Kansas City Parks and Recreation and is ADA Accessible. Participants may choose to participate in the Hike, but non-hikers are encouraged to come for the Poetry Reading and share a poem.

Dress appropriately (check weather conditions). Sunrise is approximately 7:15AM and we'll be on the trail (headlamp optional). Bring backpack, hiking shoes, snack and water. Bring poetry to share.

 

Where: Meet at Swope Park Shelter #7

Run of Show

  • Hikers will depart from Swope Park Shelter #7 for Wudchuck Run Trailhead for a 3.9Mile Moderate Hike (approximately 1.5hr hike).

  • Hikers and Non-Hikers should bring some poetry to read. Reading will take place after the Hike at Shelter #7.

  • Featured readers will be added to promotional materials for this event and agree to allow Poetry in the Woods to take photographs that may be included in web and other related content.

Registration appreciated (required to be a listed Reader @ the Event and to participate in Rideshare)

NOTE: By opting to participate in rideshare, effort will be taken to pair you with those with transportation from your identified hotel in KC. There are no guarantees. Swope Park Shelter #7 is approximately 15 minutes by car from Convention Center.

I acknowledge that Poetry in the Woods cannot be held liable for any personal harm resulting from participating in any portion of this event. Hikers especially should review the hike and ensure they are comfortable with terrain and distance.
